About France

Head to the historic centre of Dijon, along the Owl’s Trail, and discover its preserved buildings. Stroll around the antique district where the many shops give the medieval streets a delightful atmosphere. Explore the Museum of Fine Arts in the Palace of the Dukes. Have a break by relaxing on a café terasse before shopping for some Burgundy specialities. Have a walk along the Rue de la Liberté, Dijon’s main street, which is lined with buildings dating back to the 15th century and listed as historic monuments. Modern art lovers should not leave Dijon without visiting Le Consortium - Les Bains du Nord, a modern art centre, located on Rue de Longvic, where contemporary artworks are exhibited.
Spend a second day to explore famous vineyards. Indeed Dijon lies right on the Burgundy Wine Route and has earned the nickname the Champs-Élysées of Burgundy! Gevrey-Chambertin, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Romanée-Conti, Vosne-Romanée and Chambolle-Musigny are among the world’s best wines which are made in the incredible vineyards of 1247 climats, soon to become a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2015. Take the Vineyard tours, the best way to visit the Côte de Nuits! You will get a deeper insight and a chance to sample different wines. There are several daily year-round tours departing from Dijon (half or full day) which all include a guided tour of the wine cellar. Keep an eye out for the French Monument Historique, Château du Clos de Vougeot.

When its dinner time, make sure you try the local dishes. In Dijon, Burgundy specialities are protected, renowned and sometimes reinvented. Here are just a few classics to look out for: escargots de Bourgogne (snails), boeuf Bourguignon (beef stew in red wine), oeufs en meurette (poached eggs in red wine) and jambon persillé (jellied ham with parsley).

In the afternoon, go to Les Halles de Dijon market, to get your hands in local mustard, pain d’épices (gingerbread), cassis and the brand new Dijon honey!

"I made a mistake in the booking and doubled up. I would like to commend you on the efficiency which you refunded the trip I cancelled. The trip to CGG from Dijon was very convenient and eliminated an unnecessary trip to Paris. Shame there was only one morning train. "

"A short connection train trip from Beaune to Dijon. Excellent train with spacious seats, on time and added bonus being that, for this particular section, we didn't have seat allocation and could have taken any time train going to Dijon that day. "

"Have used this service on earlier trips and it lived up toexpectations this time as well. On time service was important as we had to make a connection in Part Dieu, this worked to perfection with minutes to spare. "

"The train was on time, very clean and comfortable. We were impressed. "

  • Fabulous train trip from Paris |
"Very comfortable train trip from Paris to Dijon in first class. Seating was spacious but no room for our suitcases. Others had the same problem We placed them in the pathway and corridor. There definitely isn't enough space allocated for suitcases. We did manage to place the smaller bags in the overhead racks. Enjoyed the countryside views on our 1.5 hour journey. Would definitely recommend the TGV train. "
