Reims, gateway to the Champagne region

Reims is a French town located in the Champagne-Ardenne region, northeast of Paris. The town of Reims has four UNESCO World Heritage Sites, museums and landmarks which bear witness to a rich and glorious past. The town is the gateway to the Champagne region. From Reims, visitors can visit great champagne houses such as Veuve Clicquot, Taittinger, Pommery and Ruinart. There are sereval landmarks of interest in Reims, namely the Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Palace of Tau, and the Saint-Remi Basilica.

About France

Discover Reims most popular landmarks. The Notre-Dame Cathedral, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a masterpiece of 13th century Gothic art. This magnificent building is decorated with more than 2,300 sculptures, including the famous Smiling Angel and has stained-glass windows designed by Chagall. As for the Palace of Tau, it is also a UNESCO World Heritage site and was the former residence of the bishops and archbishops of Reims. Don’t miss a visit to the impressive Saint-Remi Basilica, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Did you know that you can visit the Foujita Chapel, which was offered to Leonard Foujita in 1965. The latter was a Buddhist and Japanese by birth, who experienced an outburst of faith for Catholicism when visiting the Basilica of Sain-Remi in Reims.

Taste local delights such as Jambon de Reims, a shoulder of ham seasoned with Champagne; the famou biscuit rose de Reims, a pink biscuit; and a Sorbet au Marc de Champagne.

Use your time in Reims to get to know more about Champagnes. Have a Champagne house visit. There are many well-known houses to choose from: Pommery, Taittinger, Mercier, Mumm, Canard-Duchene, to name just a few.

A great trip to Champagne |
"We travelled with our young family to Reims for the day. The train was very comfortable and the staff at the SNCF office in Reims especially helpful when we needed to purchase an extra ticket on the day. Take your won food and drinks though as the cafe car wasn't open for this short journey (45 mins) and we were caught without a drink of water for the children on our way home. "

    Great Way to travel |
"I love the french rail system! It is easy, comfortable and convenient, and it is on time and reliable, unlike the australian system which is slow, unreliable and can see you stuck on a slow dirty old bus because they keep cancelling trains. Give me the french system and rail anytime, well done!!!!! "

    Great experience! |
"This was our first experience travelling in Europe by rail. We had no idea what to do when we arrived at the train station, we could not understand what we to do or where to go, when a porter obviously noticed us and came to our rescue. We then checked our baggage into the cloak room until time to depart. One of the staff actually walked us to the platform and assisted with our baggage. Wow! We felt relieved with the guidance which eased us and made for a great experience! "
