Austria’s railway network is operated by the Austrian Federal Railways also known as Österreichische Bundesbahnen in German (ÖBB). The railway network in Austria is made up of over 6000 km of tracks. The national railway company of Austria runs and operates the Railjet, a high speed train which can travel at a speed of up to 230 km/h. There are of course other trains which are operated in Austria. In main cities like Vienna, there is the S-Bahn and U-Bahn, and a tramway network. In Graz, Salzburg, Innsbruck there is the S-Bahn.
Mozart’s melodies are still resounding in each city of Austria. If you are a music lover, take a train to Salzburg, Linz or even both and enjoy the scenery. While you are there, don’t miss the museums and the numerous art galleries. Go for a walk in Vienna, the inevitable Capital, and discover its markets, museums, shops and its busy nightlife.
If you need a change of scenery, go on board to a train and admire the magnificent Alps. If you’re interested in history, Austria would be the perfect trip: historical towns and archeological sites such as Carnuntum that will thrill you!
If you want to bring back home a typical product to your family and friends, you should buy some hand-painted porcelain or Mozart’s candle. You can also get some Swarovski Crystal, directly made in the Alpine factory.
Eat & Drink
You should make a diet before (or after) going to Austria, if you really want to enjoy the gastronomy. Tafelspitz (Beef Stew), goulash (soup), or Wiener Schnitzel (veal preparation). Those are the delicious specialities but not adapted if you’ve expected to lose weight. Taste the different drinks and coffees while you’re savoring the Sacher-Torte, the famous chocolate cake.
Take the Zillertalbahn Train, an old 19th century steam train, and admire the Tyrolean landscapes, it will give to your holidays in Austria a romantic and charming touch of originality.
