The Renfe network

The high speed AVE trains are the main reason it is so wonderful to travel by train in Spain. Passengers can cross the country from top to bottom and side to side, seeing towns and cities like Valladolid, Malaga, Seville, Barcelona, Madrid and more.

Planning your route on the AVE trains will seem tricky as there are so many amazing cities to choose from, but a good starting point is Madrid. This capital city has the incredible Prado museum, amazing gardens and sculptures, as well as the most stylish shopping boutiques. It’s a busy happening city and the night life is fantastic.

After your stay in Madrid, why not climb aboard the AVE service and head away from the city and into the countryside of Andalusia. This beautiful region has the charming city of Cordoba to whet your appetite on all things really Spanish. After the old town why not head to the beach. Party on in Malaga, relax with cocktails and soak up the sun.

If you decide to start you adventure in Barcelona then you will find it hard to leave as the city is crammed full of wonderful restaurants and amazing architecture all topped off with a wonderful ambience. But in just half an hour the AVE train can take you to the Roman ruins and 12th century cathedral of Tarraco in Tarragona. The contrast is incredible.

Another option from Barcelona, taking less than 30 minutes, is to visit the city of Lleida, one of the oldest towns of Catalonia. From there you could make Zaragoza your next stop and see the Basilica del Pilar, La Seo Cathedral and the Aljaferia Palace. These are just some of the amazing sights you could see from Barcelona and just a tiny part of Spain.
