Reviews & ratings Annecy - Paris
I have travelled this route many times on the TGV - First Class and the journey is around 4 to 4.5 hours for the direct train option. A very comfortable trip and up to TGV Standard - departed on time, arrived on time. The improvements to City of Annecy Railway Station were much needed and have been very well done. Looking forward to my next trip to this wonderful Region of Eastern France.
Fast and efficient, very comfortable, with dinning car a great facility
Good value, convenient site of station and timetable
Have used this service on earlier trips and it lived up toexpectations this time as well. On time service was important as we had to make a connection in Part Dieu, this worked to perfection with minutes to spare.
The train trip from Paris to Annecy takes four hours and is a great way to see the French countryside. Train travel in Europe is quite expensive and there were no available discounts for this journey. However the train is comfortable and a generally pleasant way to get around. It is easier than transits to and from airports but quite difficult managing luggage through the Paris metro as well as on and off the train itself. There certainly is not sufficient room to hold suitcases even in a first class carriage.
Slow trip, comfortable but slow. Friendly service.
I found Rail Europe really easy to use online and so handy to be able to print my own tickets. Also the customer service was very good and prompt when I had a query regarding the PDF print out of my ticket. The TGV is a great way to travel. I went from Paris to Annecy in about 3-3.5hrs. The only reason I have given less stars for Value for money, was because it said online that First Class had USB's in the carriages and a meal/drink. This was not true, either on the way or way back. This wouldn't have bothered me, but I was expecting it, so it's disappointing if you expect to be able to charge your phone or use your tablet. Also I was starving but kept waiting for the meal to appear :). The carriages/coach numbers are a bit confusing too/don't match up, but this is probably TGV's area. They are minor points though, overall, a very easy and pleasant experience.
Fantastic service, comfortable seating and a pleasant journey through the country. Arriving at Pancras station I dare say is far more convenient than Heathrow.
The train was on time. comfortable, convenient and fast. All staff were pleasant and helpful. This was a great and easy way to travel from the centre of one city to the other.
Well cared for..worth going First Class.
The TGV trip was quite good but a little dirty on boarding in first class. People were generally quiet around us but we had a couple across the corridor from us who ate the equivalent of a 4 course meal including terrene which was laced with considerable garlic. The people also smacked their lips chewing etc. We eventually moved away to other seats to avoid the noise and aromas! The trip, other than the above, was good and on time. It is a pity that on some TGVs. there is no apparent provision of a quiet coach.
Travelled with young kids and luggage including dismantled bike in appropriate bike bag. Luckily we turned up 1 1/2 hrs early and as we were about to go through customs were told that our bike bag had to be taken to the freight section (800m) away and it had to be done ASAP otherwise it would miss our train. Got there and then after showing what was inside (bike plus clothes to protect it) proceded to have an argument with clerk who said it couldn't go on because of the clothes inside. We had travelled from Annecy to Paris without any problems for half the price and in first class on a TGV so we were not expecting this delay. Eventually got it on for an extra 15 euro but the experience wasn't the best. I knew bikes couldn't be taken on but it doesnt say bike bags so be warned if travelling with one.
TGV good as usual, however I had real difficulty obtaining my tickets (purchased online) from the SNCF machines at Annecy station. The machine would not read/acknowledge my Australian credit card. I have never had this problem before so I believe the SNCF machines must have had a software upgrade that has caused this. I expect many other international travellers will encounter this issue - purchasing tickets online using a credit card that ultimately can't be printed from the railway station machines because the very same credit card can't be read.
We travelled 1st class and loved the convenience of being able to drop our hire car in Annecy
we were really enjoy the trip!
