Reviews & ratings Paris - Annecy
The TGV trip was quite good but a little dirty on boarding in first class. People were generally quiet around us but we had a couple across the corridor from us who ate the equivalent of a 4 course meal including terrene which was laced with considerable garlic. The people also smacked their lips chewing etc. We eventually moved away to other seats to avoid the noise and aromas! The trip, other than the above, was good and on time. It is a pity that on some TGVs. there is no apparent provision of a quiet coach.
Travelled with young kids and luggage including dismantled bike in appropriate bike bag. Luckily we turned up 1 1/2 hrs early and as we were about to go through customs were told that our bike bag had to be taken to the freight section (800m) away and it had to be done ASAP otherwise it would miss our train. Got there and then after showing what was inside (bike plus clothes to protect it) proceded to have an argument with clerk who said it couldn't go on because of the clothes inside. We had travelled from Annecy to Paris without any problems for half the price and in first class on a TGV so we were not expecting this delay. Eventually got it on for an extra 15 euro but the experience wasn't the best. I knew bikes couldn't be taken on but it doesnt say bike bags so be warned if travelling with one.
TGV good as usual, however I had real difficulty obtaining my tickets (purchased online) from the SNCF machines at Annecy station. The machine would not read/acknowledge my Australian credit card. I have never had this problem before so I believe the SNCF machines must have had a software upgrade that has caused this. I expect many other international travellers will encounter this issue - purchasing tickets online using a credit card that ultimately can't be printed from the railway station machines because the very same credit card can't be read.
We travelled 1st class and loved the convenience of being able to drop our hire car in Annecy
we were really enjoy the trip!
Excellent trip, convenient from Gare de Lyon direct to Annecy, relaxing way to travel around France and no hassles at either end, would strongly recommend.
We liked the convenience of the transit bus and the beautiful station at Avignon. The train was very slow to load as a lot of people boarded but there was no directions about luggage so everyone stopped just inside the doors and struggled to find space to stow their bags. Some diagrams about the train layout at the station or with our tickets or instructions from porters would have helped a lot with the boarding process. Once we were in, the seats were spacious and comfortable.
Getting to the Gare de Lyon was hectic and a lot of stairs with the luggage was slow going. Once we arrived at the TGV platform to Lyon everything ran to plan. Great train trip.
