Reviews & ratings Amsterdam - Brussels
Train journey was great. very quiet, convenient and left on time. Unfortunately we ran almost an hour late by the time we reached Brussels, apparently due to various signal works or isues enroute. Considering my other train trips were all on time, this was most unusual and I accept that it happens occasionally.
That was my first time on the train in Europe and it was the wonderful experiences. I quite liked the meal served on board as well. Only one thing I would like to see some improvements is the bathroom.
Caught a local train to connect to Poitiers-Paris it was delayed so had to get replacement tickets for a later Thalys train. No charge. Made it tight to connect to Eurostar back to London. Needed all of planned 2 hour gap to connect. The reason value for money was rated low was, it was a last minute decision - never leave bookings to the last minute. Early bookings are good value.
This is the only way to travel between European cities. And RailEurope made it super easy, especially with your own Travel Book that included your train information, station information with maps and information on your destination. Highly recommend.
Nothing to fault, arrived at destination on time
More mundane than Eurostar but enjoyable. Spacious and quiet.
I thought travelling with a bike would be difficult however it all worked out very easy and comfortable.
Whilst only half an hour this trip was on time and comfortable. I would certainly recommend the rail network to travel.
It would have been cheaper to fly but the convenience of leaving from the centre of one city by train where our hotel was, and arriving in the centre of the next city where our next hotel was, made it worthwhile.
Ice trains are more comfortable
problems with getting tickets from rail europe! very difficult to get customer service (no phone number and often not able to get online help via chat) but once i got online chat help the problem got solved easily.
Providing a meal on the journey was a treat in 1st class. Cost of special fare was a bonus.
All went off well with no major problems. The pass was recognised everywhere with no difficulty. We had a few problems with luggage especially on NS double decker trains which have almost no provision for large bags. It would be nice if the pass were accepted by Thalys but at least there is now a through ordinary train from Brussels to Amsterdam. We were disappointed not to be allowed entry to the 1st class lounge at Frankfurt Hbf; we were allowed entry at Schiphol airport which was very good after a long flight. I sent the report to Eurail as requested but have never received the promise "small gift".
Clean and comfortable. Luggage space for large suitcases at the end of the carriage was quite limited with some cases left on the floor during travel. The train only travelled at Eurostar type speeds on certain sections of track and there did not appear to be any grade separation in the Brussels area. So the Thalys service was bound up with evening peak commuter trains. I was quite surprised by this. Clean quite train with luggage storage the only issue.
The train is very accessible and the Brussels railway station is user friendly. The trip takes no time at all in a comfortable coach.
