Reviews & ratings Avignon - Nice
We missed the train to Las Spezia that we were booked on but because it was due to the late arrival of the train from Como we were able to get on another one 2 hours later at no extra charge. The staff at the station were excellent and as we did not have a seat booked we were able to sit in a 6 seater carriage which we had all to ourselves. It was a very pleasant journey
The train service was reasonably comfortable and efficient despite the slashed seats and grafitti.
The train service was comfortable and efficient.
Train was on time, clean and comfortable. Very convenient way to get from Nice to Avignon.
Although travelling in 2nd class train seating was comfortable with plenty of leg room, I am 185Cm tall. Toilets were clean and more than adequate storgae space provided for luggage.
It was a great way of travelling - had one hassle - given incorrect direction from Service Office - to wait at the wrong platform - missed train and had to pay for another 2 tickets from Nice to Avignon. We found that you need to wait till the announcement on the electronic arrivals/departures board for correct platform number.
I can't fault Rail Europe. The tickets were delivered to our home very promptly, there were no errors, no problems with ticket collectors. Seats (second class) were comfortable, the trains (TGV) were clean, fast and on time. Thanks.
Printed out pre-booked tickets at the station. No problems, all as smooth as clockwork.
Had a nice train ride from Nice to Avignon, although wasn't real impressed with Nice Railway station. We were 3 females travelling and just followed the signs to our platform and didn't realise we'd have to carry our heavy bags down and up a heap of stairs. There must've been a lift somewhere but we didn't see it. Anyway the train ride was nice. Very quiet and smooth and enjoyed the extra space of travelling 1st class. The restaurant car was just next door, but I thought the TGV would've had cabin service. Also I would've thought we'd have wifi. But apart from that, I always enjoy travelling by train in Europe. You see so much more of the country side and they're always punctual.
We had the tickets, but I was concerned that I had to do more with them, get them stamped or something, but information told me I was good to just board and use them. With these trains, you just wait in the area near the platforms (voies) and wait until the boards show which one your train will board from. Then there is a mad rush as everyone heads down a platform and onto a train. If you're coach 12, that can be a long way down the platform. Good smooth travel, quiet and fast.
We enjoyed the trip though we left a bit late due to some troubles elsewhere on the line. Apart from this train travel in France, and this trip in particular, was good. Our only complaint would be that there doesn't seem to be quite enough room for cases for people who have a case or two that they are travelling with.
We were very happy with our train travel around France.
we found train travel excellent and a convenience way to link up our river cruise plus the tour of southern France
good experience - only thing found difficult was can't find out where your carrige will be prior to getting on the train
