Reviews & ratings Nancy - Paris
On time, comfortable, fast.
Would highly recommend fast train travel. It was our first trip and we were so impressed. From purchasing tickets via internet to finding platform to leave from, was all easy for the newby traveller. The comfort of seats, plenty of leg room, and journey was a great experience. Will certainly travel by train again. Book early and First class is only a few dollars more than 2nd class!
Apart from the comfort and benefits of the train travel in itself, the taxi from our hotel to Gare de l'est to depart and taxi to the hotel on arrival in Nancy were both fast and inexpensive (compared to taxi to airports).
We enjoyed the "slower" train through the French countryside. We could see more and the "local" feeling of passengers getting on and off at regional stations added to the interest. Although slower than TGV we enjoyed the experience.
The train journey was smooth and uneventful; it passed through some very beautiful countryside and charming villages on the edge of Lake Geneva. The biggest problem was finding the entrance to the railway station in Geneva, which is not well marked, and I had to ask several people for directions.
Excellent fast service. Comfortable seats, service was fautless.
One of the highlights of our holiday; only improvements - 1. the shop was not open and the trolley service was very limited with awful coffee. I would have thought there was a market for souvenirs/books sales on-board. 2. It was interesting having the speed displayed; a map similar to route maps on airplanes would be a useful addition.
Trip was on time. In all of our train trips in France we were allocated seats facing towards the rear of the train and with restricted window space. Which was annoying and disappointing. We felt that the worse seats on the train were allocated to overseas bookings. However it is a very economical and quick way to travel. There is barely enough space for suitcases and we were travelling off peak so must be very difficult when trams are full.
Rail Europe's instructions for obtaining tickets from a machine at French railway stations were excellent. Journey of about 90 minutes was terrific - smooth and quiet at 300 kph and at what seemed to us a ridiculously cheap price (33 Euro per head). Great to hurtle past the motorway traffic and while not necessarily the best way to see a lot of France on a lengthy stay it was certainly a pleasurable experience in avoiding the Paris traffic at the end of our stay.
