Travel inspiration in Paris and Montpellier
Paris, the capital of France
This is it! You are nearing a visit to the one of the world’s greatest cities, Paris! The capital of France is also known as the City of Light. This enchanting city, at the crossroads of cultures, is the capital of fashion and home to world highlights such as the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre and Avenue des Champs Elysées, to name but a few. In terms of architectural beauty, art history, events, gastronomy and sheer extravagance, Paris is a milestone ahead of any other city on earth.
Beyond the highlights of the city, Paris is the ideal place to discover the French art de vivre. Take a seat in a café and simply enjoy the scene in front of you: locals shopping fresh food from authentic markets, people taking their time for lunch which usually lasts more than an hour, women and men who are well groomed in a simple yet fashionable way… Simple things that make life much more enjoyable.
When it’s time to eat, you’ll be spoilt for choice. Indeed, Paris has a wealth of restaurants serving specialities from every corner of the world. And of course you don’t come to this amazing city without having a morning croissant, lunch in a neighbourhood bistro or dinner in a Michelin-starred restaurants if you wish to have a treat.
Paris has one of the world’s most extensive public transport systems. You can take a taxi if you are not much of an adventurer, but that would be a pity! Metro (subway or underground), buses and city bicycles are much more fun and are very easy to use, even for beginners. Go to any metro station and ask the RATP staff to help you out with the best ticket option. Don’t forget to ask for a free tourist map.
It takes more than a couple of days to discover Paris, but you can plan your visit according to our 3-day itinerary to see the best of the City of Light.
Located in the heart of the Languedoc Roussillon, Montpellier is the perfect place to experience the art de vivre of southern France: elegant, lively, cultured… From Paris in less than 3 hours and a half or from Barcelona in less than 3 hours, offer yourself an escapade to a city that combines old charm with the dynamics of a modern, vibrant, cosmopolitan European city. Outstanding cultural and vanguard destination, Montpellier is more than ever a must!
Reviews & ratings Paris - Montpellier
Enjoyable travel, comfortable seats, cafe on board sells snacks, drinks and sandwiches. Toilets on board. Announcements are made in French only. The platform will only be advised 20 minutes prior to departure and when the train arrives it's a mad scramble to find your carriage, they aren't chronologically ordered. There is a map on the platform screen showing where each carriage is located but be prepared because it's crowded with passengers and TGV staff with trolleys.
The TGV from CDG to Montpellier was smooth and relaxing after more than 24 hours squeezed in an economy plane seat from Australia. The connection was seamless, and not taking much longer than plane, taking into account the waiting and transfers. The price was equivalent to the airfare but without the hassles, overall better value. The return journey was equally good.
I have long avoided train travel in Europe, having experienced some difficulties in the past. I have always preferred flying and have gone to great lengths to do so. However, my recent journey, Montpellier to ParisCGD won me over. It was comfortable, fast and our considerable luggage was within eyesight. So that's it. I'm converted.
The trains (including the toilets) were clean and the journey was comfortable, fast and enjoyable as was our experience with all rail travel in France. If only we had such a rail system in Australia!
It was a very good train ride as far as comfort and ease leaving fromCDG. But however if you are English speaking you really need to have a fair idea of the upcoming stations as the announcements are not clear and you need to be ready with bags and things ready to alight.
Very civilized - city to city. Shame there were no charging outlets on the train nor WiFi. They even have free WiFi on the metro service in Korea where we live.
On time, plenty of space, very efficient. Love the Swiss train system.
Booking with Rail Europe was easy, quick and not that expensive. Have used before and would do so again.
Very comfortable journey in all aspects.
Decided to travel by train for the experience. Was not disappointed. Very clean, roomy and comfortable.
The train is the easiest and fastest way for us to get from paris to southern france. The train is clean, spacious and comfortable. It is easy to book online, print your tickets in Australia and then just turn up and board the train on the day of the journey when in France. The train conductors are professional, very nice and helpful. Highly recommended form of transport.
I not only travelled to Paris Montpellier I also travelled Montpellier/ Arles and Paris /Reims. All four trips were outstanding. Booking, time of departure/arrival, comfort and cleanliness of train, helpful staff. If only we had such systems in Australi. Bravo Rail Europe.
great trip on time, comfortable, relaxing and worth doing
Very good service in general. Advice: Many of your customers will be intelligent, but from overseas and unfamiliar with the system. Why not have info boards at the entrance to explain 1 that platforms are not allocated until 15 min before departure, (a cause of anxiety and very unusual!) 2. cars are numbered and how to identify them, 3. which way to go for each platform 4 a map of the platforms 5 availability of food and drink on trains 6 whether you need to get your ticket stamped before you get on or who is going to check it. 7 that there are different systems for different ticket and who needs to use the check in terminals and who doesn't, etc. It makes it look like you don't care about your visitors.
Received outstanding service from Rail Europe when booking the ticket online and if you book early enough great deals can be had. My trip was first class from Paris to Montpellier and was excellent in every way from the station to the seating to the on time performance.....well done Rail Europe and the French TGV system
