Paris

Paris, the capital of France

This is it! You are nearing a visit to the one of the world’s greatest cities, Paris! The capital of France is also known as the City of Light. This enchanting city, at the crossroads of cultures, is the capital of fashion and home to world highlights such as the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre and Avenue des Champs Elysées, to name but a few. In terms of architectural beauty, art history, events, gastronomy and sheer extravagance, Paris is a milestone ahead of any other city on earth.
Beyond the highlights of the city, Paris is the ideal place to discover the French art de vivre. Take a seat in a café and simply enjoy the scene in front of you: locals shopping fresh food from authentic markets, people taking their time for lunch which usually lasts more than an hour, women and men who are well groomed in a simple yet fashionable way… Simple things that make life much more enjoyable.
When it’s time to eat, you’ll be spoilt for choice. Indeed, Paris has a wealth of restaurants serving specialities from every corner of the world. And of course you don’t come to this amazing city without having a morning croissant, lunch in a neighbourhood bistro or dinner in a Michelin-starred restaurants if you wish to have a treat.
Paris has one of the world’s most extensive public transport systems. You can take a taxi if you are not much of an adventurer, but that would be a pity! Metro (subway or underground), buses and city bicycles are much more fun and are very easy to use, even for beginners. Go to any metro station and ask the RATP staff to help you out with the best ticket option. Don’t forget to ask for a free tourist map.
It takes more than a couple of days to discover Paris, but you can plan your visit according to our 3-day itinerary to see the best of the City of Light.

Reviews & ratings Paris - Turin

  • "TGV from Turin to Paris"
I find getting the train around Europe to be more enjoyable than flying. To go from one city centre to another avoids a lot of wasted time and large taxi fares. However I do think the TGV is looking a little tired and needed to be cleaner but in other respects it was very good. Booking ahead is a must to get better value. The Porta Susa station is very new and very boring, if you get there early there are no shops, one café and I could not find a bookshop/newsagent anywhere.
  • "Seamless trip experience"
From the booking and price through the trip itself everything was great. You would be crazy not to book before leaving Australia. Just print out the email and take the ticket with you.
  • "Something to look for"
On board wifi access availability would make it even better. Announcements in English for international travellers would be an added advantage.
  • "Paris to Venice 1"
Booked the train for this trip. Left at 10 am so we were able to enjoy the spectacular scenery a great trip.
  • "very comfortable trip"
The seats are spacious with a head rest. We booked 1st class and we loved it all. The service for food and drinks made it even more pleasant. Not too expensive. We actually ordered the hot lunch with wine but many people brought their own. Train was punctual.
  • "Journey to Turin"
We travelled 2nd class on this journey trip was quite good. However, if you can book early enough buy a first class ticket much easier to board the train with luggage. This way you avoid battling the crowds trying to board. Train station just around the corner from our hotel.
  • "One of the slower TGVs"
Were travelling on a first class eurail pass. Very early start from the Gare du Lyons. For the first part of the journey ran at the speed I would expect of a TGV, but once it got into the more mountainous/alpine regions the speed dropped significantly. That said, was pleasant looking out of the window and watching the countryside pass by.
  • "good"
We booked first class, I thought we would at least get WIFI. The seats are crampy I thought there would be more room for your legs. Apart from this it was good and comfortable. Not enough room for the luggage. I thought food and beverages were included. we did pay for lunch and it was very nice.
  • "turin station"
Enjoyed the trip , fascinating scenery, however Turin Station was very disappointing, had lots of space but few facilities. Easy to find where the trains were departing from.
  • "Train travel"
Great trip service from staff was friendly and helpful
  • "Rushed check-in"
This trip was fantastic - such beautiful scenery! The only trouble we had was that check-in processes were quite unclear at Gare de Lyon so we ended up in a huge rush even though we'd been there hours early.
  • "Highly enjoyable"
The travel from Milan to Zurich was highly satisfying in all respects.
  • "Great traveling experience"
Its a great traveling experience with TGV. In this occasion the train was late in arriving at Torino. I had to catch another train from Torino to Firenze in less than an hour. Although the TGV to Torino was late, I could catch the next train without any rush. The staff were helpful in ensuring that even if I wasn't able to catch the next train due to delay, I could take the next train to Firenze without another reservation. Apart from being a bit late, the travel experience was really great. It was highly comfortable and convenient and with a first-class global rail-pass, booking a seat reservation wasn't expensive at all, thereby providing excellent value for money. Overall, I recommend traveling on TGV to other travellers.
  • "Great but luggage problems"
We paid a bit extra to travel 1st class and it was well worth it for the comfortable seats and food and drink service. It would be good to have someone assist with your luggage as the steps to the platform are quite steep and so lifting suitcases up and down is difficult. There is also a lack of space for suitcases at the end of the compartments (though one end of each carriage appears to have more space available than the other). The scenery was fabulous and it was a welcome rest from days of walking around cities. Also a surprise that they have electrical connections available to recharge phones etc from each seat.
  • "Very enjoyable"
Great journey from Paris through the alps to Italy. Quite a long time in a train but worth it for the views.
