Le Mans, car racing and heritage, a surprising mix in a pretty city!

Le Mans is a city of western France, in the Pays de la Loire region. This 140,000 inhabitants city is very famous for the 24 hours of Le Mans, an international motor race. The city was built along the banks of the Sarthe and Huisne rivers and can easily be reached by train from Paris.

About France

The main event in Le Mans is without any doubt the 24 hours of Le Mans. This race groups many pilots together for different trials lasting each 24 hours.

Over this event, Le Mans is labelled "ville d’art et d’histoire". Historically, Le Mans is related to the Plantagenêt’s dynasty insomuch the historic centre is called the Plantagenêt’s Cité. This part of the city contains many monuments such as the Saint Peter la Cour’s collegiate or the Saint Julien’s cathedral.

Le Mans also presents an unique example of roman wall, which is one of the best preserved ones in the ancient Roman Empire.

    Comfortable, smooth, speedy  | Dimitry s. | 2015/09/15
"First class seats were comfortable. Trip was fast (one stop only). However we found it difficult to manage the luggage and thre was a lack of space for large luggage cases. The buffet cart unfortunately had very little choice and service was slow. Were disappointed that passengers were loitering and sitting on their bags in the area between carriages, where we had to leave our luggage!! "

    Train Delay | Siety m. | 2015/06/28
"40 minutes before our train was due to arrive at Le Mans, we discovered is was delayed by one hour. OMG we had a flight to catch at CDG, this was going to make us late! Fortunately I noticed there was a train arriving in 2 minutes which was also going to CDG, so a mad dash to the correct platform, a chat with the friendly Station attendant who assured us we could use our ticket on this train, we boarded and then sought further clarification from the Train Attendant that indeed we were okay to take a vacant seat and the train would get us to CDG slightly earlier than our original train selection. All in all, very happy! "

    Training in France | Geoffrey b. | 2015/06/16
"Coming from Australia, one of the great joys of visiting France is rail travel and specifically the TGV - north, south, east or west - there's nothing better than speeding through the always picturesque French countryside by train. My only complaint ?? The journey's are never long enough, such is the level of enjoyment for the whole family. It's the only way to travel around France !! "

    Trains through France | Geoffrey l. | 2014/07/17
"This was one of several trips we did over last 3 weeks. Train was on time, booked seats essential as we had to remove a family who had squatted in our seats, but no argument. Great trip through scenic countryside but stressful transfer to next connection. We had been warned by Rail Europe to take care with only 20 minutes between trains but made it with 1 minute to spare!! Great way to get around Europe and looking forward to next trip! "

"Rapid and efficient service; the only thing which would have improved it would be a proper dining car on the train. "
