Liege, one of the belgian gems you must see

With its fiery natives and devotion to Pèkêt, the local genever (Belgian gin), Liege is known as La Cité Ardente, or burning city. Don’t leave town without strolling around the Carré district or haggling at the Quai de la Batte’s Sunday flea market.

About Benelux

On Saint-Lambert square, you can admire the Prince-Bishops’ Palace from the 16th century and visit the "Archeoforum", the archaeological Museum, surprisingly located under the square and taking you to a travel through 9000 years of history.

As you walk around though the town centre, you will find six collegiate churches, beautiful witnesses of the Liège principality. Head to the market square to admire the oldest monument of Liège dating back from the 11th century: the "perron", which is a stone column decorated with a cross-bearing orb, symbolising freedom and autonomy.

You should also take a short cruise on the Meuse river to relax while enjoying a fantastic view on Liège

Paris to Liege by Thalys | Vivienne r. | 2013/09/12
"Purchasing the ticket before leaving home is a great idea, and relieves the anxiety of finding the ticket office at the station and managing the queues. The Thalys train was quite new and very comfortable. My only hassle was in identifying the correct 'voiture', as the numbers were difficult to see from the platform as the train rolled in. However the guard on the train was unexpectedly very friendly and helpful, and even helped stow my suitcase. Inter-city train travel in Europe is much easier and more user-friendly than anything I have experienced here at home. "

"My desire was to travtravel from Liege to Paris. When I booked online I had to make the journey in two legs - from Liege to Brussels in one train and then from Brussels to Paris in a second train with a 40 minute layover in Brussels. On boarding the first train the conductor informed me that my original booking was wrong and that the train I was on was going through to Paris and that I need not cange at all. It was an excellent journey made even more pleasant because I could do it all on the one train. Liege station is magnificent in every respect. "

"Travelled with Thalys for business, great comfortable trip. Booked Second class, had free wi-fi included, easy to log on. Suggest booking seats in advance, as many passengers travelled this segment. "
