Ventimiglia, typically italian

Ventimiglia is located in the northwestern part of Italy, a few kilometres away from the french border. Facing the Mediterranean sea, it is a small 26.000 inhabitants city offering sandy beaches and wonderful landscapes. Experience the Dolce Vita in Ventimiglia.

About Italy

Ventimiglia can boast about having some remains of the roman period. Have a walk around the 2nd century theater, or around the rests of the roman villa and walls.

If you want to learn more about this glorious past, head "Balsi Rossi" where is the archaeological museum. Do not miss the Dell’ Asunta cathedral, dedicated to the Blessed Virgin. Built during the 11th and 12th century, it replaces a carolingian former church. Another church is worth the visit, the San Michele Arcangelo’s church.

Stroll along the beach to enjoy the sun and the market (on friday), where you can find local products and counterfeits. On June, enjoy the flower battle.

    Great trip | Fred k. | 2015/10/01
"I love traveling through Europe by train. It beats any other form of travel. You don't have the stress of getting stuck in traffic if you hire a car and the added worry of road rules and the risk of traffic accidents and directions. On the train with Rail Europe, you just sit back and relax and enjoy the view of the European countryside. Thanks Rail Europe, you did a great job in dispensing the tickets to my house in a very short time, three days. "

    Easy and comfortable | Kevin s. | 2015/06/13
"I would urge all travelers to firstly consider train as the main way to travel throughout Europe and the UK. 1st class travel ensures a seat and personal service for a few more dollars and it's well worth it. "

Trains from La Spezia to Nice | Siety m. | 2015/05/25
"we took the train from La Spezia to Nice and whilst the train was 15 minutes late departing, we appeared to make up some time and had no trouble connecting in Genoa for our train to Ventimiglia. This train was crowded but managed to find seats and were able to stow our suitcases. Would have been nice if we could book seats but not possible. The train from Ventimiglia to Nice was jammed pack and it was first in first served, as a result had to stand or lean on suitcase. Thank goodness this was a short journey! "

    See the countryside! | Ian g. | 2015/05/05
"This 1 hour trip was a great way to see the countryside near the sea which would otherwise be missed if we were driving. At the time of trave (Mid April), there was no problem finding a seat and there was plenty of room nearby for our luggage to be monitored. Much more relaxing than driving, but change of trains at Ventamiglia initially felt as if it would be rushed, but the 15 minutes or so was quite a comfortable timeframe. "

  • Italy train trip | . | 2014/08/26
"Trains was late arriving at Ventimiglia which made connection VERY difficult and frustrating; 5 hour journey from Milan to Ventimiglia had no food nor drink to purchase on the train - a very unrealistic thing to do for such a long train journey; 1st Class compartment was AWFUL - too croweded, and not enough luggage space for all the passengers. Air conditioning was not sufficient. "

    Late connection | Dominic m. | 2014/05/31
"i would like to be fair in my review. the Italian leg of the journey was late by 40 minutes into Ventimiglia. The french section ran smooth and was well organised. It was lucky that other trains were available from Ventimiglia as we missed ours. "

Ventimiglia to Nice train trip | Marylynn c. | 2013/10/16
"The train was very full so there wasn't a lot of room for our luggage. A lot of people had to stand but we were lucky enough to get a seat. "

    Not great. | Cherie b. | 2013/10/07
"Ventimiglia station was very grotty. There were no lifts, and no staff on the platform to help. The train is so high off the platform, it is very difficult to lift bags up and down the stairs and through a narrow entryway. We also had a person pretending to be a staff member and helping us lift our bags, but then he was very rude and asked for money for his assistance. The train ride was comfortable once we were inside. "
